TOEFLが紙ベースで行われていた時代には、テストのライティングのトピックは185に限定され、問題が公開されていた。そのため、185個の問題に対してある程度暗記をすればそれなりの点は取れた時代がある。

しかし、テスト形式がiBTに変わってからは、問題は本試験ごとに異なり、事前に回答を暗記をしても、本試験で役にたったと言うことはほぼないだろう。
